Providing Scouts with thrilling opportunities to experience adventure throughout the United States.

Test your mettle at our High Adventure Bases

Through our High Adventure Bases, Crossroads of America Council offers older Scouts opportunities to travel to unique destinations throughout the country to experience the outdoors. The High Adventure Bases range from coastal facilities off the Florida Keys to thrilling adventures in Northern Minnesota’s Boundary Waters. Learn more about each of our High Adventure Bases:

Florida Sea Base

Imagine thousands of square miles of underwater coral formations, peaks, valleys and literally hundreds of different kinds of fish. At Florida Sea Base, Scouting youth learn to pilot a range of vehicles to gain access to this underwater wilderness: large sailing vessels, powerboats, kayaks and SCUBA equipment.

Northern Tier

Canoe, fish, hike and experience the beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Scouting youth will experience the thrill of a rugged High Adventure trip and enjoy the awe-inspiring, natural beauty that only Northern Minnesota can offer. The Northern Tier is the canoeing adventure of a lifetime.

Philmont Scout Ranch

Philmont Scout Ranch, the Boy Scouts of America’s premier High Adventure™ base, challenges Scouts and Venturers with more than 214 square miles of rugged northern New Mexico wilderness. Backpacking treks, horseback cavalcades, and training and service programs offer young people many ways to experience this legendary country.

Grand-Slam-of-National-Adventure-Patch

Experience High Adventure Locally

Project COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) is a unique experience for older Scouts (age 14 and older) focused on developing leadership, self-esteem, decision-making, communication, teamwork, trust, planning and problem-solving skills. The primary focus of COPE is learning through play. The Indiana Gas COPE Course at Ransburg Scout Reservation includes initiative games, 19 low-course elements and nine high-course elements concluding with a 300-foot zipline.

Climbing helps introduce youth to a popular sport and reinforces skills such as teamwork, self-esteem and trust. The David H. Williams Climbing Tower includes initiative games, three climbing sides, a rappelling side, chimney climbing, free rappelling and a bouldering wall.

Crossroads of America Council schedules seven Saturdays a year when instructors are available to run activities at the COPE Course and Climbing Tower at Ransburg Scout Reservation. Units may reserve their space online.

To book a campsite or cabin at Ransburg to use before or after your COPE or climbing experience, please visit our facilities rental online reservation system.
